Ananthagiri hills is located 6 km from Vikarabad and just 80 km away from Hyderabad city. This is one of the big forest area in Rangareddy district and favorite picnic spot for Hyderabad people. There is a lord Ananta Padmanabha swamy temple in this forest area, which is named after this god as 'Anantagiri'. Temple will be flooded with pilgrims during the weekends. The temple is open through out the day.
Things to do in Anantagiri forest
This is an ideal place for trekking and forest walking. There is a Forest guesthouse close to the temple on the way to Vikarabad. This is bang on the Main road and on a small hillock, giving a panoramic view of the forest. There is practically not much to see or do, but if u are nature freak and want to be away from the clatter of city crowd you can chill out here. This trip can be for a day visit or if u are in a group try to plan for a week end so you can stay in Telangana tourism's Haritha resort over the night and enjoy time and nature.
Trekking in Anantagiri Forest
Ananthagiri forest is the best place for first time trekkers. The forest is not so deep, there are less chances of getting lost.
There are two popular trails.
First trail starts from the Anantha Padmanabha swamy temple and the other starts from the area which is half kilometer away from the temple towards kerelli. First trail follows the temple steps leads to the holy water tank and then directly goes inside the forest.
Second trail offers picturesque views of the forest and the valleys.
There are many small hills in the ananthagiri region to challenge your capacity and passion.
